Skeletons

“Skeletons at the Table”

Recycled Wine Décor

Dia de los Muertos for me is a time to reflect on my own path. A time to let ideas, thoughts or processes die, allowing room for new inspiration and fresh energy. This idea resonates with me.  In Hispanic culture death and life are not separate entities, they are the same.  We need life to have death and death to have life again.

My mother went through 6 rounds of chemotherapy this summer. My sister and I banded together, death was not spoken of yet its presence was always felt. By the end of August there were no skeletons in the closet, all the skeletons were at the table.  My mother is currently in remission and the skeleton has become a symbol of transition for me.  We have a second chance with mom, and we can celebrate the good times in the past, let the hard or painful parts die, and focus all our energy on our new life.

All of the skeletons in “Skeletons at the Table” are dressed in their best. They are here to have fun and represent all the positive times you have experienced, to bring joy and laughter to your table. Their bony grins create a quiet reminder to let some things die, allowing room for the present.
